Sui Gained 24.4% Over 24-25 Sep as DeepBook App Went Live

Sui (SUI) rose 24.4% between the 23 and 25 Sep UTC closes as DeepBook App launched, while Bitcoin slipped 0.4%. On-chain volume says flow came from elsewhere.

The tidy explanation for Sui's week, that SUI simply rode a Bitcoin rally, does not survive the daily closes. Between the UTC close of 23 September and the close of 25 September, SUI rose from $0.9600 to $1.1939, a gain of 24.4%, while Bitcoin slipped from $84,382 to $84,076, a loss of 0.4%, on the same CoinGecko daily series. Those two days bracket a dated event: at 13:00 UTC on 24 September the DeepBook Trading Foundation switched on DeepBook App, a self-custodial front end for the central limit order book that has settled trading on Sui for three years. Measured from the launch hour itself ($0.9606) to the next midnight print, the gain is 24.3%. The window is short and the move is real. What the record does not show is a clean line from the launch to the price, and the on-chain data says why.

DeepBook's own indexer, which Mysten Labs runs as a public API, logged $8.70 million of SUI/USDC turnover on launch day. That is less than half the $18.37 million and $18.53 million it printed on 21 and 22 September, before anything launched. The book only woke up on 25 September, at $26.09 million, and most of that day's price gain arrived in a four-hour burst between 09:00 and 13:00 UTC in which SUI climbed 11.2%, before US exchanges opened and with no new filing, release or blog post in the Sui Foundation's feed. The launch was the catalyst on paper. The flow came from somewhere else, and on a 24-hour market volume of $1.73 billion, DeepBook's SUI/USDC pool carried roughly 1.5% of it.

What went live at 13:00 UTC on 24 September

DeepBook is not new. It is the shared order book that other Sui applications have routed through since the network's early days, and the Sui Foundation's launch post puts its cumulative volume above $20 billion across more than 15 integrated apps. What changed on 24 September is that the book got its own retail front door. Until then, a trader reached DeepBook through an aggregator or a third-party DEX. Now there is app.deepbook.xyz, with spot markets at launch including SUI/USDC, xBTC/USDC, DEEP/USDC and WAL/USDC.

The second product is the one that drew the attention. "Predict" lets a trader pick any Bitcoin price level or range and an expiry from one minute to two weeks, and get a quote on demand. It is not an order book at all. A single pool, which the post calls the PLP pool, takes the other side of every binary option, and prices come from a high-frequency volatility oracle built by Block Scholes. In plain terms, the pool is the house, and an oracle-driven implied volatility surface decides what the house charges.

"Sui was built to move money as fast as messages, and DeepBook App extends that into a fast, seamless trading experience," said Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, in the Sui Foundation announcement of 24 September.

Two restrictions in the launch FAQ matter more than the marketing. Predict is not available in the United States, where only Spot is offered. And the full app is geo-blocked in eleven jurisdictions, including Singapore, the city that hosts Sui Basecamp on 7 and 8 October.

Glenn Kennedy, CEO of the DeepBook Trading Foundation, framed the product as the first step of a longer build: "Most onchain trading products make you choose between execution quality and keeping control of your funds. We built this so serious traders don't have to make that trade-off. Spot and Predict are just the first two products on that roadmap," he said in the same release.

Two closes, one burst: the SUI tape against Bitcoin

CoinGecko's own percentage fields for SUI read +41.38% over seven days and +51.29% over 30 days at 09:09 UTC. Neither reconciles with its daily series. Anchored on the 19 September print ($0.8142), the seven-day gain to the 26 September midnight print is 46.6%; anchored on 26 August ($0.7572), the 30-day gain is 57.7%. Every return in this article is computed from those daily prints, and the anchor date is stated each time.

The chart shows why the two-day move stands out. SUI spent most of June to mid-September between roughly $0.65 and $0.85, touched $0.6865 on 16 September, and in the past seven months has printed above today's level in only one episode, 11 to 14 May, which peaked at $1.331.

The split inside those two days is lopsided. The launch day itself, 24 September, added 5.6%. The following day added 17.8%, and CoinGecko's hourly series places most of it between 09:00 UTC ($1.0298) and 13:00 UTC ($1.1450). No post appeared on the Sui Foundation blog, the Mysten Labs GitHub release feed or the DeepBook launch page inside that window. We looked for a trigger and did not find one at a primary source, so this piece does not assign one.

DEEP, the token that pays fees on DeepBook, gained 26.9% across the same two prints, slightly more than SUI. That is the market's cleanest vote that the launch mattered: a token whose only job is the order book outran the base asset.

Where the demand did not show up

Three independent ledgers can be checked against the price, and none of them tells the story a launch-driven rally would need.

The first is the book itself. If new retail users had arrived through DeepBook App and moved SUI, the SUI/USDC pool would carry the evidence on 24 September. It carried $8.70 million, the lowest daily figure since 17 September. The xBTC/USDC spot pool, the natural companion to a Bitcoin-focused Predict product, traded $0.24 million on launch day and $0.19 million the day after. DEEP/USDC moved $0.24 million and $0.28 million. Those are rounding errors against SUI's $1.73 billion of reported 24-hour volume. The indexer's spot endpoints do not break out Predict, so the options side of the app remains unmeasured here.

The second is the US wrapper. Grayscale's Sui Staking ETF traded 427,452 shares on Friday 25 September and closed at $16.62, up 12.24%; at the closing price that is roughly $7.1 million of turnover. Canary's staked SUIS product closed at $29.74, up 12.1%, on only 9,748 shares. The GSUI spike is real, but NYSE Arca opens at 13:30 UTC, half an hour after SUI's burst had finished. The ETF followed the coin. It did not lead it.

The third is the rest of the market. Bitcoin went nowhere, which rules out the simplest beta story. With the order book quiet and the ETF late, the residual is off-chain venue flow: centralised exchanges, perpetual futures and whatever positioning was already in place after SUI's 16-to-22 September run from $0.6865 to $1.0413. That run, too, began before the launch.

The same Thursday brought a standards seat and a protocol upgrade

DeepBook was not the only primary-source event of the week, and treating it as the sole cause means ignoring two others with their own dates.

On 24 September, the Linux Foundation's LF Decentralized Trust announced 15 new members, among them the Sui Foundation, Swift and Wells Fargo. The same release carried a statement from Sui's side.

"Traditional finance built its standards over decades, but an equivalent set of standards for tokenized assets has yet to be defined and broadly adopted," said Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, in the LF Decentralized Trust release.

Daniela Barbosa, General Manager of Decentralized Technologies at the Linux Foundation and Executive Director of LF Decentralized Trust, put the batch in bigger terms in that release: "We have reached a tipping point for commercialization of digital assets." Membership in a standards body does not route a dollar of flow to SUI. It does put the chain in the same working groups as the banks it wants as users.

A day earlier, at 16:49 UTC on 23 September, Mysten Labs tagged mainnet-v1.80.1, carrying Sui protocol version 137. Its first line item makes Ristretto255 range-proof verification cheaper and raises the per-call limit on commitments times range bit length from 512 to 1,024, which is plumbing for confidential transfers. That ties to the Foundation's 18 September post on confidential finance and to the private-transactions theme on the Basecamp programme. Readers who followed Zama's confidential-vault launch will recognise the pattern: markets price the privacy narrative well before any product ships.

The 11 May precedent

SUI has done this recently. On the daily series, it went from $1.0718 on 10 May to $1.331 on 11 May, a one-day gain of 24.2%, almost the same size as this week's two-day move. It did not hold. By 11 June the print was $0.7266, 45.4% below the peak, and the chart shows the token grinding sideways under $0.85 for most of the three months that followed.

Precedent is not a forecast, and the two episodes differ: May had no dated product launch attached in the Foundation's feed, while September has three primary-source events inside 48 hours. What the May episode does show is that SUI's liquidity can lift the price a quarter in a day and remove it again within a month. Even after this week, SUI sits 62.9% below its 27 September 2025 print of $3.2198, 15.0% below its 1 January 2026 print of $1.4039, and about 78% under the $5.35 all-time high CoinGecko records for 4 January 2025.

A closer comparison sits elsewhere on this desk: Hyperliquid's 30-day climb, a case where an order-book venue's own business sat at the centre of the move. The difference is the length of the evidence. DeepBook's pool data has one strong day so far.

What this changes

For the Sui network, 24 September moved DeepBook from infrastructure to product. The order book now has its own branded venue, a Bitcoin options pool with one-minute expiries, and a waitlist the Foundation puts above 150,000. That changes what can be measured. From here, the pool-level volume on DeepBook's public indexer is a daily scorecard for whether the app brings new traders, and 25 September's $26.09 million is the first data point worth tracking. A return to the $5 million to $10 million range that dominated mid-September would say the launch-day spike was a visit, not a migration.

For the SUI price record, this week establishes a fact and leaves a gap. The fact: SUI rose 24.4% over two UTC days while Bitcoin fell 0.4%, so the move was specific to Sui, and DEEP's 26.9% gain says the market tied it to the order book. The gap: the biggest leg, 11.2% in four hours on 25 September, has no trigger at a primary source, and the on-chain book was not where it happened. A token that gains that fast on flow nobody can name is also a token that can reverse on flow nobody can name, as it did after 11 May.

For US holders, the wrapper now reacts. GSUI's eight-fold volume jump on Friday shows the ETF channel is live, but it arrived after the coin moved. Scale matters too: when Solana's ETF assets reached $1.06 billion, the wrapper was a flow in its own right. GSUI's Friday turnover of about $7.1 million is a different order of magnitude.

The next dated test is Sui Basecamp at Marina Bay Sands on 7 and 8 October, a programme the Sui Foundation says centres on instant settlement, autonomous payments and private transactions. Anything shipped there will have a timestamp, and the DeepBook indexer will show within a day whether it moved the book or only the price.

Questions readers are asking

How much did SUI rise after DeepBook App launched?

From the 24 September 00:00 UTC print of $0.9600 to the 26 September print of $1.1939, SUI rose 24.4%, per CoinGecko's daily series read on 26 September. Measured from the 13:00 UTC launch hour ($0.9606), the gain to the same midnight print is 24.3%. At 09:09 UTC on 26 September SUI traded at $1.17.

Did Bitcoin drive the SUI rally?

Not over this window. Bitcoin's daily prints went from $84,382 on 24 September to $84,076 on 26 September, a fall of 0.4%, while SUI gained 24.4%. Bitcoin did rally earlier in the month, which helped SUI's 16 to 22 September run, but the launch-week move was specific to Sui and its order-book token DEEP.

What is DeepBook Predict?

Predict is a Bitcoin options product inside DeepBook App. A trader chooses any price level or range and an expiry between one minute and two weeks, and a shared liquidity pool quotes the position using a volatility oracle from Block Scholes. It is not offered in the United States, where the app provides spot trading only, and the whole app is unavailable in eleven jurisdictions including Singapore.

Is there a spot SUI ETF in the United States?

Yes. Grayscale Sui Staking ETF trades as GSUI on NYSE Arca and closed at $16.62 on Friday 25 September, up 12.24%, on 427,452 shares. Canary's staked SUI fund trades as SUIS and closed at $29.74, up 12.1%, on 9,748 shares. Both figures come from Nasdaq's historical data, cross-checked with TradingView.

What happens next for Sui?

The next scheduled event is Sui Basecamp 2026 in Singapore on 7 and 8 October, held alongside TOKEN2049. The Foundation has billed it around instant settlement, autonomous payments, private transactions and post-quantum security. Separately, DeepBook's public indexer publishes pool volume daily, which gives a direct check on whether the new app keeps drawing trading after its first two days.
